Kait O’Hanlon’s Piano Studio

Kait O’Hanlon began her piano studio in 2022 where she was able to share the love of music making with her students! She taught through the Butler Community Arts School while studying at Butler University. After graduating, she settled in Bloomington IN, where she is offering in-home piano lessons to students in the area as well as the Columbus, IN area. She also continues to teach at BCAS and looks forward to begin teaching at the Young Pianists Program at Indiana University and Indiana Conservatory of Music in fall 2024.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe a piano studio should be a welcoming and safe place for students to explore creativity and one’s passion for music. I welcome students from ages five and up into my studio to explore the world of classical piano. With my guidance, students will have autonomy over their lessons and learning along with a safe space to experiment and learn independence. It is my hope they will take these lessons with them into their daily lives and their future once they graduate from my studio.

The relationship with a student and their private instructor is a crucial one I take very seriously. It is based on mutual respect and care. I know each student can achieve their goals with time, hard work, and guidance. I aim to give my students the tools to become independent learners by teaching practice strategies so learning continues to be successful and enriching outside of our time together. It is my goal that my students develop critical thinking skills to become problem solvers and nourish their creative minds. I introduce my students to challenging and fun music that is enjoyable to play and listen to and I hope to foster a fun environment full of music, games, improvisation, learning, and smiles.
